MSC «MeteoTelex» is one of components of the automated system of meteorological support of aviation (ASMS) and performs the functions of message switching between different ASMS components as well as ASMS and MECOM (ASPD) networks and AFTN.

Communication channels

MSC «MeteoTelex» ensures data exchange with the following communication channels:

• telegraph or telephone channel of MECOM (ASPD) network
• physical line (telegraph or telephone channel) for receiving observation data from an aviation meteorological station
• physical line (telegraph or telephone channel) or LCN for receiving messages of AIS «MeteoExpert»
• physical line (telegraph or telephone channel) or LCN for receiving messages of AIS «MeteoConsultant»
• physical line (telegraph or telephone channel) or LCN for receiving messages of AMRS «MeteoCell»
• VOLMET channel
• ATIS channel

Tasks

• receiving textual information by telephone and telegraph communication channels
• information exchange with MECOM (ASPD) network of hydrometeoservice
• information exchange with civil aviation AFTN network
• information exchange with other computers by local area network
• receiving observation data from aviation meteorological station and their circulation to the determined addresses and communication channels
• receiving messages from AIS «MeteoConsultant» and AIS «MeteoExpert» with forecast data (TAF/FC, TAF/FT), warnings, SIGMET summaries, requests to aviametadata banks




• conversion of formats of messages of aviation meteorological station, AIS «MeteoConsultant», AIS «MeteoExpert», AWR «MeteoExpert» and AMRS «MeteoCell» to HMS ASPD and AFTN format
• adjustment of formats of multi-address and addressed messages of hydrometservice network
• maintenance of a route table based on channels and data types
• activity logging for each channel
• print output of received messages
• generation of newsletters for VOLMET service
• operational input and transfer of different text messages
• automated distribution of answers to formalized requests
• receiving graphic information in Т4 code

Completing units

«MeteoTelex» MSC is made up of a set of hardware and customized software. Hardware set comprises a rack ('cabinet') of the standard with a UPS, in which the main and standby PC blocks, a modem and communications sections are installed.

Installations

As of 1 June 2017, 63 «MeteoTelex» MSC were installed in AMC and CAMS of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Belarus and Moldova.
